The wife and I got to see Mike D last night on his tour with his backing band 5D. The show was at History, which is a venue I have never been to before and had otherwise dismissed since it makes for quite the trek. The venue, despite being all the way across town from me, was great. It sounded way better than I was expecting and the lighting was stellar. I now have few excuses to skip shows there.

Not seeing the Beastie Boys while they were touring is one of my biggest musical misses. I always hoped they would play somewhere near me and I never made the effort to catch them where they were playing. It probably also didn’t help that I didn’t have a ton of money when they were together and touring.

So when my wife told me Mike D had a new album coming out with a supporting tour, I was super in for it.

The set seemed to be most (if not all) of his new album Thank You and a seemingly random Delta 5 cover, with a sprinkling of a few portions of Beastie Boys tracks. Needless to say, the bass was booming from down below.

I still regret not seeing the Beastie Boys, but I’m glad I made a point to catch Mike D.
